A 400-level student of the Department of Microbiology, University of Ilorin has beaten his lecturer, identified as Mrs R. F. Zakariyah unconscious, the lecturer is said to be recuperating in an undisclosed hospital. The assault was said to have occurred on Thursday.

The student, identified simply as Captain Walz, reportedly attacked the lecturer in her office, as the victim reportedly sustained severe injuries.

Captain Walz, had reportedly sought the assistance of the lecturer after failing to observe the compulsory Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), Daily Trust reports.

“A visit by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem, in the company of the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Oladiji; the Director, University Health Services, Dr Odunola, and a few other staff to the victim and her family, this morning, Saturday, confirmed that.

“They further described the incident as unfortunate and sad, and assured justice will be done on the matter.

“He (The Vice-Chancellor) ordered proper care of the victim on the bill of the university.”
