The National President of Nigeria union of teachers (NUT), Comrade Audu Titus Amba has Said that the union is working round the clock to ensure all the state governors in Nigeria pay 30,000 minimum wages to primary teachers and the implementation of teachers’ retirement age policy approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Titus made the statement in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday at the Nigeria labour congress delegates conference held at the college of nursing sciences Kebbi state.

According to him, so far about 15 states in the country have approved the teacher’s retirement age and more recently Kano, Ogun, Osun and Benue states have joined the league of state governors who approved the policy ‘ we have directed our chairmen across the states to talk to their governor’s to convince them to approve and the interface is yielding results assuring that Bagudu too before his government winds up will approve it he said”.

On primary teachers’ minimum wage implementation, mister Audu said that the issue is not peculiar to Kebbi alone saying even Kaduna where he hails from has not implemented the primary teacher’s minimum wage while ascribing the problem to poor funding of primary education by state governors he urged the federal government to take over the funding of primary schools as is the way teachers can get better welfare packages they deserves he said.

The NUT National chief admonished teachers in Kebbi state to rally around their own in the person of his immediate boss Dr Nasir Idris who is contesting the governor of Kebbi ” this is the type of opportunity many states are yearning for,  you have it now don’t let it away slip away because he knows teachers problems and he has the capacity to solve them”.

While congratulating the winners of the election he urged them to live above board and work tirelessly to meet the demands of workers in Kebbi state.
