It has been a very sensitive subject over the past few months, with seemingly FIFA playing hardball when it came to negotiations of broadcasting rights, but it seems that France has finally found a way to show the World Cup.

With the tournament kicking off only in a few weeks, the Women’s World Cup could be broadcasted by an association of two television groups in France. According to L’Équipe, M6 and France TV could be uniting to show the biggest international event in the women’s football calendar.

The channels have seemingly found an agreement with FIFA over a deal worth under €10 million to show the games. Starting 20th July, France will be looking to recover from a tumultuous few months and lift their first World Cup, after making it far into the tournament in previous tournaments, including a quarter final in their home tournament in 2019.

Nothing has been signed yet, as is the case for other countries. There is no deal in place for the United Kingdom, for example, despite England being one of the strong favourites to lift the cup in Australia on 20th August.

The pair of channels are also trying to negotiate for a deal concerning broadcasting rights of the French National team outside of the tournament. Currently, the W9 channel, part of the M6 organisation, broadcasts games. Sold by the French Federation, the rights could stay with W9, but the channel would be able to “share” them with other public broadcasting channels.
