Many feared trapped as another building collapses in Lagos

A building has collapsed in Mushin, Lagos. The two-storey building is situated at Sonuga Street, Palm Avenue, Mushin.

The Lagos State Government today said that it has directed the prompt investigation of the cause of the collapse of a building.The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins, an Engineer, who spoke at the site of the collapse, said that incident, which occurred midday on Friday was a partial collapse of a building that is over 40 years.

He said that while moves were on to determine the cause of the collapse, he has directed that the adjoining building be pulled down for safety reasons to avert danger.

He regretted the occurrence and said that effort is on to pull out those that might be trapped in the rubbles.

The Commissioner said that the Lagos State Building Control Agency( LASBCA) and the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory had been directed to swing into action to unravel the cause of the collapse while the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency had since commenced rescue operations.
